Steve

Picture
Acoustic Guitar, Lead Vocals
Steve's first professional job was at the age of 12 when his 2 older brothers needed a
fill-in drummer - they took him off the Little League field during the championship game! As luck would have it, they won the game but he never got his trophy - just $50 for playing the gig. Fair trade for a 12 year old. From the age of 13 he was playing in bars and at weddings (illegally for someone that young) every weekend. He minored in percussion at James Madison University and played in many professional bands as a teenager, not only in New Jersey but in Europe and many major venues including the Spectrum in Philadelphia and the L.A. Colosseum - all as a drummer. Life kept him confined to local clubs in the region for the next 2 decades. Guitar came late in life as a result of having to sing lead as a drummer - not very interesting for audiences to watch. It was time to step out front. He started playing country music just a few years ago, and still keeps his rock chops sharp with other projects as well as 4-Wheel Drive.
Steve plays Guild acoustic guitars exclusively and Fishman and Fender amplifiers. His wife Terri is highly involved in promoting the band through emails and the internet.

Ted

Picture
Pedal Steel Guitar
Ted is one of the finest pedal steel guitar players in the area. Proof of that are the many bands that call on Ted to play - he's always busy when he's not putting the pedal to the metal with 4-Wheel Drive. Ted first became captivated with the sound of the pedal steel during the 1970's when young country rock bands like The Byrds, The New Riders of the Purple Sage and Poco were in their heyday. Once he got his hands on a pedal steel he spent countless hours listening to records and teaching himself to play.
You can hear Ted's versatility in everything 4-Wheel Drive does, from the Beatles and the Eagles to Wilson Pickett. While he enjoys many other styles of music, Ted's true love is country music, especially the modern sound. His many projects over the years are way too numerous to list but he's found a home with 4-Wheel Drive - or maybe we just won't let him get away! He's that damn good.
These days Ted is inspired musically by the likes of Paul Franklin, Randle Currie and Buddy Cage among many others. At a gig you might see Ted playing either his 1970 Emmons or his 2008 Carter pedal steel. Ted (and 4-Wheel Drive!) would also like to thank his wife Joan for being understanding of his "other" love.

Bob

Picture
Bass guitar, Backing and Lead Vocals
Born in Newark, NJ, he grew up in Toms River, NJ. Bob's first interest in music was learning to play guitar at the age of 7.  Taking lessons in his Dad's music store, Music City in Bricktown, NJ for several years, he soon discovered the bass guitar.  Over time, bass became his passion. He joined various school bands and has played clarinet, alto and baritone sax, baritone horn, and even tuba in the marching band.  At the age of 30 he was playing bass for a country band called Country Sunrise.  Bob has played for several classic rock bands such as Area 51, and Next Time.  Coming back to the country scene he picked up his bass once again for Dusty Saddle Bags and the Honky Tonk Heroes bands.  As things would have it, the music scene in the area became slow.  Around 2006  Bob got the call from 4-Wheel Drive - the band needed a bass player.  He jumped at the opportunity and met the guys for rehearsal.  Bob's style of playing was an immediate fit with what we were doing and he's been a part of 4-Wheel Drive ever since.  In addition to his bass playing,  his vocal harmonies are really the most impressive part of his repetoire. They are always spot on. He's filled in with others, but 4-Wheel Drive is where it's at for him.
Bob uses a 5 string Kawai Bass, Padula strings and Hartke amplifiers and cabinets.

Gary

Picture
Drums (& Lead Vocals as one of his alias' "Jaggar the Mick" or "Waylon's Mistake" {aka "Jennings the Premature Shooter"})
Providing the solid beat for 4-Wheel Drive, Gary is the longest tenured member of the band and is the driving force behind the band's sound. Growing up in Philly with a love of music Gary, along with millions of other kids, heard the Beatles and was hooked on Ringo's drumming. After getting his first kit and learning to play, he played rock for many different bands in the Tri-State area. He started playing country in the early '90's when the country music scene was changing over from Country & Western to the artists influenced by C & W and Southern and Classic Rock (like Vince Gill, Colin Raye, Garth Brooks, etc). He's played in different country bands since the 90's but when 4-Wheel Drive was formed and needed a drummer, Gary was the first choice and he's been the only one behind the kit ever since -  the band wouldn't be the same without him.
In addition to playing drums, Gary has been stepping out front to get the crowd going as "Jagger the Mick" who sings and does all of the Jaggar moves as well. It's really something to see and is one of the reasons 4-Wheel Drive has become such a popular local attraction. It's not just great country music, it's the ability to have fun at our own expense and give our crowd a show where they can enjoy and be part of the fun too. Just wait until you see Gary perform as Shooter Jennings (aka Waylons Mistake). You'll love it!
Gary plays Yamaha Stage Customs and Zildjizn and Sabian cymbals.

The Gals

Equipment used -  lonely weekends, weekends sitting in bars, along with support for what we do
The band would like to thank the women who support our love of music, who come out and sit in bars for 5-6 hours helping us set up at the beginning of the night and then tear down at the end. Who put up with our being away not just for the gigs but for the countless rehearsals. For the long rides to and from the job. For the money spent on gear and clothes. For supporting all of the things it takes to do what we do. Our wives are the reason we can bring you music night after night and job after job and we thank you all.
